What is Leukemia | Body blood Cells

Our blood consists of cells and plasma. Plasma is some sort of liquid. Blood cells float in this plasma. Blood cells can be divided into three type, White blood cells, Red blood cells and platelets. Each cell has its specific role. White blood cells are part of our immune system. If somehow white blood cells are destroyed or count of white blood is decreased, our body defense system is affected and our body is exposed to various diseases. Red blood cells carry oxygen to lungs and other tissues of body. Lack of red cells is very dangerous and causes various diseases like anemia.  Platelets help in blood clotting. Without platelets too much bleeding may occur.

Blood cells are produced in bone marrow. Blood cells production includes several stages. At some stage, due to some problem the production of blood cells becomes uncontrollable. Mostly this problem occurs with white cells.  As a result, abnormal white cells are produced. These abnormal white cells last longer than normal cells. Abnormal cells do die easily. These abnormal cells replace normal blood cells. This situation is celled leukemia cancer.
